Anyone can come into contact with asbestos. Usually it happens at work. In fact, a number of studies have shown a correlation between the industrial sector and diseases of the lungs. This is because asbestos is usually inhaled- unfortunately, the symptoms don't manifest themselves right away. This is why a number of people have developed Mesothelioma but never connected it with their workplace.
